Telephone Scam Alert

phone scam

On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office began receiving reports that citizens are being contacted by a male subject stating he is a detective with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. The male subject is telling the citizen he or she has failed to appear for jury duty and a warrant was issued for their arrest. The unknown male instructs the citizen to purchase a prepaid Visa credit card and to call him back with the numbers to the card to resolve the warrant.

Be aware, there is no one from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office calling to ask for money from citizens to be paid by a prepaid card. The number the unknown male is using for citizens to call back is (910) 460-2064.

If you receive a call from this number, please disregard the call and do not answer or return the phone call. If you have questions in regards to a phone call from the sheriff’s office being a legitimate call, please call the sheriff’s office directly at (910) 895-3232.
