Sheriff James E. Clemmons, Jr.


James E. Clemmons, Jr. was hired at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in 1989. He served as a Patrol Deputy until 1991, when he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Detective Division. In 1997, he was promoted to Lieutenant; in 1998, to Captain; and in July 2002, he was promoted to Major. In November 2010 the citizens of Richmond County voted to elect him as their Sheriff.

During his law enforcement career Sheriff Clemmons has served in several roles, has been part of the Special Response team and has received many awards and certificates:
