Courtroom Security

Deputy sheriffs assigned to Bailiff duties within the Richmond County Judicial Center are responsible for all aspects of court security, which includes inmate control and courtroom decorum. Securing inmates who are brought to court for trial may be the most important function that the courtroom deputy, Bailiff, performs. Providing safety and security for the judges in the courtrooms is also a very high priority since judicial officials are occasionally the target of emotional and sometimes physical outbursts. In addition to these duties, deputy sheriffs must also maintain the decorum of the entire courtroom, including the people in the gallery, jurors, witnesses, and attorneys.
